GREATER CLEVELAND VOTER COALITION AND DAVE'S SUPERMARKETS ADVANCE OUR DEMOCRACYSubmitted by Jeff Buster on Sat, 01/05/2008 - 19:21.
Sam Heide (seated at table) working with the Greater Cleveland Voter Coalition on Saturday afternoon, January 5th, 2008 helped register prospective voters at Dave’s Supermarket in Shaker Square. Cold and rainy outside - warm, well lit, gregarious and non-adversarial atmosphere inside the store. Great place to meet the neighborhood.
If you want change in NEO and in the US - one of the most effective ways to produce change is through, educated, informed, and consistent voting.
You can find when and where the Coalition is actively registering voters by telephoning the Coalition at 216-391-0900 or find them online at www.clevelandvotes.org Writing and reading these Realneo (and and other) blogs is intellectually stimulating and educational and fun, but to make change we need new government.
Hats off to Mr. Heide, the Greater Cleveland Voter Coalition, and Dave’s Supermarkets and Dave’s President Daniel Saltzman for proactively supporting our citizen’s right and opportunity to vote. I should add, that one reason I appreciate Mr. Saltzman's hospitality towards voter registration is because during the Putitontheballot.com petition drive effort I experienced that many businesses didn't have the chutzpa to stick up for petitioning and wanted to throw us off their property PLEASE - ENCOURAGE YOUR FRIENDS, NEIGHBORS AND ACQUAINTANCES TO REGISTER AND VOTE! BETTER YET - RUN FOR OFFICE YOURSELF!

Did he have to wear Wahoo?
So painful. Why aren't you watching the presidential debates with the immediate Facebook poll results? Do I have to join Facebook??
I registered to vote at Dave's
Glad you posted this, Jeff... I registered to vote at the Dave's in Ohio City... probably with this guy.
Dave's is such a great local market chain and core to our economy (2007 revenues over $130 million and over 900 local employees).
A few years ago, I had the pleasure to meet with Dave's founder (in 1928) Dave Saltzman about putting a Dave's in East Cleveland and he seems to be a terrific guy... his big concern at the time was how WalMart Steelyards would affect his business... now that that dust has settled, I plan to revisit this possibility for a site in EC again.
When I lived in Ohio City, I had the choice of a really crappy Giant Eagle to the west, on Detroit, or Dave's to the east... and I always chose Dave's (right by #1 West Side Market).
Living in East Cleveland, I have the choice of three nearby Dave's, and the fantastic Zagara's, Heinen's and Food Co-Op, not to mention the Coit Farmers' Market... a local owned, local food goldmine, all walkable or on good public transit for the EC.
Disrupt IT
DAVE'S CEDAR HILL STORE NEEDS REGISTRATION OPS
I spoke with a friendly cashier at the Dave's Cedar Hill (old Russo/Eagle store) and asked if the voter registration table had been in that store yet.
She didn't think it had.
So, Cleveland Votes please set up shop at Dave's Cedar Hill because there are a lot of Case students in that area who may not be registered.
