HERB AND DOROTHY directed by Megumi Sasaki Citizen Dashboard Killer Ap Proposal: Reinvent Journalism in Real NEOSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Sun, 03/22/2009 - 16:55.
I was surprised to see a letter to the editor printed and on-line in the Sunday, March 22, 2009, Cleveland Plain Dealer - "A flag of peace is found out of order at the St. Patrick's Day parade", by Lou Pumphrey. It starts: "Being half-Irish (on me mudder's side), off work on St. Patrick's Day and knowing the day would be sunny and warm, I vaguely considered donning my 41-year-old U.S. Army dress uniform and joining the St. Paddy's Day parade downtown, carrying my flag." But there was no accompanying picture of Lou or the Flag of Peace. In the print edition, there was a file photo of a parade, but it was hardly relevant.

CLEVELAND INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL: FILM REVIEWS, DAY ONESubmitted by Evelyn Kiefer on Fri, 03/20/2009 - 23:44.
My first pick, at 11:45 am, was Dancers, by the Danish director Pernille Fischer Christensen. Her second feature length film, it is part of the CIFF series titled “Scandinavian Screenings.” Dancers plays again Sunday March 22 at 9:20 pm. I highly recommend this film! Tips for enjoying the 33rd Cleveland International Film Festival March 19-29, Tower City CinemasSubmitted by Evelyn Kiefer on Mon, 03/16/2009 - 00:38.
Once a year, during the brief run of the Cleveland International Film Festival, Cleveland feels like one of the great cities of the world. For a little more than a week the grand space of Tower City is filled with life; diverse crowds of art lovers flow in and out, steadily buzzing with excitement for what they are experiencing. Because it only happens once a year, it is easy to overlook The Cleveland International Film Festival as one of Cleveland's greatest assets.
Artist for all Time: Clarence E. Van Duzer, Rest In PeaceSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Sat, 01/31/2009 - 01:22.
I was very saddened to learn today we lost a great artist, loved friend and family to many, and inspirational Clevelander with the passing of Clarence E. Van Duzer. I knew Van Duzer as a family friend and always was inspired and energized by talking with him, his work, and his approach to life. At our last meeting, at his Convivium opening, in 2006, he was so strong and clear it seemed he would live on forever.

Ed Hauser died suddenly November 14, 2008. Northeast Ohio has lost its most ardent, studied and tenacious citizen activist.

RFP - Request For Partners in Redevelopment of Coventry Elementary School and PEACE ParkSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Fri, 11/07/2008 - 15:54.
The October 30, 2008 Sun Press lead cover story article (strangely... not on-line) was: "New Uses For Coventry? Music School Settlement, day care, and charter school send letters of interest". This reported, "The Intergenerational School's proposal also listed several partners: Richard Fleischman Architects, of Cleveland, Star Neighborhood Development, of East Cleveland, Strategic Resource Consultants, of Cleveland Heights, and City Fresh Cafeteria, Fresh Stop and Market, of Cleveland". "Fleischman would serve as design architect, while Star Neighborhood Development and Strategic Resource Consultants would likely be development partners...". "That proposal would also include a 1.5 acre "Urban Farm"...". I submitted the proposal, a public document, highlighted below and attached as a PDF, and can say the Sun Press report is largely correct, but the story is far from complete, and far more exciting than the Sun brings to light.

Cleveland, OH Library of the Day: Cleveland Heights Lee Road Branch, Reinvented by Studio TechneSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Mon, 08/25/2008 - 19:24.
I've used the Cleveland Heights library on Lee Road since the 1970s, and can say with confidence the recent Studio Techne reinvention of this facility transformed the space, site, and surrounding neighborhood for the better. Featuring a dramatic, high-art bridge over Lee Road, and two reused buildings - one signficantly modernized - with crisp, fitting site improvements, this is one of the best library facilities and urban redevelopments in Northeast Ohio.

Art of the Day: City Xpressions08Submitted by Norm Roulet on Mon, 08/25/2008 - 09:56.
Huge props to the many artists, MCs, DJs, bboys-and-girls, organizers and 100s of real NEOans who turned out for the 7th annual City Xpressions Street Art Festival, August 23, 2008, at West 25th and Lorain, Cleveland. A perfect summer day - great happy crowd - creative vibe and entertainment - and some spectacular urban art. While there weren't as many artists as the last year I attended, what showed was diverse and often pure genius.
