I believe the full October moon arrived as scheduled at 10:57 a.m. on the morning of Wednesday, October 20th.

 

With a very pleasant and sunny morning --- there was no way to check – as the bright day light obscured a view of the moon.

 

But in the evening – shortly after sunset the full moon was out and shining with exceptional brightness.

 

In fact – during the past two evenings – with clear skies – the moon was clearly visible rising in the eastern sky shortly after 6:30 p.m. This was a rare gift to Clevelanders who normally experience overcast skies covering views of the full or near-full moon.

 

I play solo tennis every evening, weather permitting -- and on both evenings I saw the moon rise while playing tennis in Jefferson Park.

 

On October 20th -- I was out in my front porch -- enjoying a vegetarian meal.

 

Our house faces Cooley Avenue on the south side of the park.

 

I saw the moon rise over the eastern side of Cooley Avenue.

 

As I was enjoying my meal -- I saw the moon brighten our flowers and plants in our porch and along our driveway.

 

I was moving around photographing the full moon – sometimes on Cooley Avenue, then along our driveway, and back on the porch.

 

The lead photograph shows a cosmos flower welcoming the full moon. The flowers are growing out of pots along our driveway. While we are close to the end of the season for the annual flowers – we still have a few of our flowers blossoming in full glory – cosmos, marigolds, and zinnias.

 

The second photograph shows the geraniums in our porch welcoming the full moon. The geraniums are perennials. I will move them to our sunroom before the start of season's frost – and where they will blossom all winter. Come next spring, after the weather stabilizes – the pots will be back in the front porch.

 

The third photograph shows a young catalpa tree with the full moon in the background. The tree is growing in our driveway. The tree is trimmed every year at the end of autumn to limit its growth.

 

The fourth photograph shows the moon rising along Cooley Avenue. The streetlights and the lights from passing vehicles provide a contrast.

 

A fire truck drove by on Cooley Avenue – first going west and then turning around and going east. The fifth photograph shows the rear of the truck reflecting beams of light with the moon continuing to rise upwards.

 

The last photograph shows Smokey (left) and Gingy (right) -- mother and son – our two outdoor cats and my constant companions – in our driveway – watching me moving around photographing the full moon from various angles. Of course they were moonstruck. And so was Galena, their dear friend, -- our golden retriever with a curly tail – now at the Rainbow Bridge.

 

The October moon is known as the Hunter's Moon -- as it marks the start of the hunting season.

 

According to the Internet: “Other names for the October full moon – are the Falling Leaves Moon and Dying Grass Moon, representing different seasonal changes. Some have also referred to it as the Blood Moon or Sanguine Moon, which is also in reference to the start of fall and the hunting season. October's full moon has also been called the Travel Moon, which represents the migration patterns of animals and humans preparing for winter."
