Glad to see career public job-jumper Richardson gone as Commerce SecretarySubmitted by Norm Roulet on Sun, 01/04/2009 - 15:02.
In these changing economic times, the last person we needed as commerce secretary was Bill Richardson. So glad to see him removing himself as Obama Commerce Secretary - a poor, politically-motivated choice in the first place... I'll be glad to see Richardson diasappear from public "service" entirely. One more old leader gone. Who will now be promoted to position of Commerce Secretary... another old economy leader or a new social innovator?

who is right to transform this department?
Who would be best for Commerce Secretary? What should be the mission of the Department? Globalization... Glocalization... Localization of the economy? What are the jobs of the future, in the New Economy not yet developing well in America, thanks to poor industrial commerce vision and strategy in the past.
Based on the mission described below, our Department of Commerce has failed America miserably... at least the last 20 years. We need a very innovative approach to the department - not more Clinton-era thinking.
But who is right to transform this department?

A real Obama insider for Commerce Secretary
When I think of what was successful in "Commerce" in the world the past two years if was Obama For President - the milti-billion dollar start-up enterprise the took a relatively minor political leader and made him the most powerful human on Earth.
So who is the brains behind the commerce of Obama - that is who I want in charge of my "job creation and improved living standards for all Americans, infrastructure that promotes economic growth, technological competitiveness, and sustainable development, gathering economic and demographic data for business and government decision-making, issuing patents and trademarks, and helping to set industrial standards.

Who would be best for Commerce Secretary?
that is the question, Norm. To be honest, Barak (crap he doesnt even have a casual first name, bless his heart) has scared the crap out of me with his choice of those he is placing in positions of power...
I mean Abe Lincoln IS very cool, and I just bought a coffee percolator today, and there is that new nostalgia for the old ways (code:security), but the world is sorta spinning into a self-destructive spiral at the moment.
It might be nice to have someone who appreciates sustainable development as the cultivation and growth of local agri/green/gray that vastly reduces energy consumption while boosting our local economy. I mean progress is nice, but we have to appreciate some old school stuff here too.
But, I'm curious why you find Richardson lacking? What is it about Richardson to alienate you? I do miss news releases and stories. I'm ready to just go live in the hills, because Richardson is one a the very few in Barak's administration I thought refreshing... here's from his presidential candidates bio:

Bill Richardson, a proven consensus-builder...
The thing that impresses me most is his record for native Americans, althought I'm not an expert so I'd be interested in other feedback. But nothing good about Richardson matters to me, in this situation. Clintons, and Kennedys, either.
First, regarding qualifications for Commerce Secretary, nothing in Bill's 30 years of public jobs says he can innovate commerce at the national level and help save the global economy - make America's workforce competitive...
Second, he was already Energy Secretary and we don't have much to show for that.
Third, we need fresh leaders with fresh approaches... especially in addressing the economy, technology and workforce development...
Fourth, we definitely don't need... "Bill Richardson, a proven consensus-builder, has scored significant diplomatic successes"
Last, I'm sick of politicians sucking so many years of income out of the tavpayers, rather than making room for new leaders. After 30 years, he should retire and join the Peace Corps as a volunteer... give back to the world.
