Kucinich Announces Townhall Meeting to Discuss Crisis at MetroHealth Monday, Oct. 10, 2011 7:00 pm at Merrick House in tremontSubmitted by Quest-News-Serv... on Tue, 10/04/2011 - 23:47.
Cleveland, OH (September 30, 2011) – Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) today announced a townhall community meeting to discuss the crisis at MetroHealth. The event will be held on Monday, October 10, 2011 at 7:00 pm ET at the Merrick House gymnasium, located at 1050 Starkweather Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio.MetroHealth has taken on a disproportionate amount of uncompensated care in Cuyahoga County. Instead of seeking fair reimbursement from the Cleveland Clinic, which has not paid its fair share, they have chosen to cut jobs and go after the most vulnerable people by cutting service. At the same time, they have given away millions of dollars in no-bid contracts to CEO Mark Moran’s previous employer and have a grossly inflated salary structure for top employees.
“This is fundamentally wrong. It’s an abdication of the primary responsibility of MetroHealth. It’s time for the community and the county to start asking tough questions.
“MetroHealth needs to hear from the community about the unacceptability of its policies. I intend to hold a forum to give patients, Metro employees and other public officials an opportunity to be heard in the interest of developing alternatives to stop the layoffs and protect service to the most vulnerable among us.”

Metro Health Comments....
Metro Health has a long history of allegedly serving the 'poor'. The administration has made poor choices to create payroll allowances that exceed their budget restrictions for too long. They are now experiencing the results of years of "LIVING OUTSIDE OF THEIR MEANS" and should liquidate their losses.
The Greater Cleveland region residents who go to Metro for emergency services are many times treated in a segregated format of "WHO'S GOT INSURANCE AND WHO DOES NOT!" It's a federal violation and they've been busted enough on these violations.
Ultimately, the time for CHANGE has come....and they are being impacted the same as the rest of the world.
As far as their involvement in the community; they believe that because they provide federally reimbursed treatement to uninsured; that they don't have to participate more in their local community. That is an ugly reality in how they operate. They have only recently begun to collaborate in areas that are adversely affecting our community.
Running a not for profit in Cleveland, Ohio has resulted in countless entities like Metro Health truly living outside of their means. These entities should begin to see regulation in how they are abusing their financial records. The little people are being used as quotas for federal funding; but the big wigs are taking home gravy paychecks in excess of reasonableness.
Accountability, Responsibility, and Truth are needed for the citizens of NEO... We ask the Congressman to demand that these entities be stopped from abusing the people with unethical practices in pay, contracts, and so much more.
BTW: Dennis; why don't you demand justice for all those cracking sidewalks around the parking lots and park areas of Metro???? Millions of dollars in concrete sidewalks show hundreds of feet of cracks, debris, and decay. It's ugly! Take a walk between Valentine Avenue and the Towers......It's just the beginning. Those contractors need held liable for that mess.

Merrick House is not accessible
This meeting is being held in the basement and that is not handicapped accessible, so be prepared.
KUCINICH: ADA VIOLATIONS.....UNACCEPTABLE....
Even more unacceptable is the fact that these impoverished citizens will be forced to pay for parking at the Metro Parking garages.....
