AN UMBRELLA ON COOLEY AVENUE IN CLEVELAND, OHIO 

Friday, June 18, 2021 – was mostly an overcast day with rain – part of the day. 

It started raining around 10:00 a.m. 

I went out to our front lawn – our house is on Cooley Avenue and faces the south side of Jefferson Park. 

I had my umbrella with me. While trying to move some bricks – I momentarily put it down on the lawn. And when I next looked at it – it was literally in the take-off mode – a light breeze had lifted it to the middle of Cooley Avenue. The first photograph shows where it landed. I quickly retrieved it. 

The rain started coming down with some intensity. A dedicated City Road Repair crew was busy working at the corner of Cooley and West 132nd Street. See #2. 

When I came out later in the afternoon – around 3:00 p.m. – I checked our rain gage – and it showed a reading of half an inch. This is a lot of rain – it nearly filled up a 5-gallon plastic container sitting under the spout of front porch roof. See #3. 

#4 shows some of our miniature trees (in pots) along our driveway facing Cooley Avenue knocked down by the storm. Not a major disaster – I just had to pick them up so they could stand tall and majestic. We have a 2-car garage but no cars – as I (a former New Yorker) don’t know how to drive – so our driveway is used to display our pots containing flowers and miniature trees. 

#5 shows Smokey and Gingy (her son) – our two outdoor cats, and my constant companions, in the front lawn of our house (looks more like a forest floor), in the evening after the earlier storm. Galena, our golden retriever with a curly tail, now at the Rainbow Bridge, kept them company for many years.

The weather folks had predicted more rain and wind for the evening – fortunately nothing came. Jefferson Park looked serene and lush in the evening – see #6. 

I went out to play solo tennis (see #7) – the park was almost abandoned – users stay home when forecasters make predictions of thunder and lightening. 

The half-moon was out when the clouds moved away. The full moon (a supermoon) is scheduled for next week – June 24.
