VOTE NO ON ‘SIN TAX’! PRIMARY ELECTION IN CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OHIO IS ON MAY 6, 2014Submitted by Satinder P S Puri on Sat, 02/22/2014 - 14:16.
VOTE NO ON SIN TAX! VOTE NO ON CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OHIO’S EXTENSION OF THE ‘SIN TAX’ FOR ANOTHER 20-YEARS. NO TO CORPORATE WELFARE. PRIMARY ELECTION IS ON MAY 6, 2014.
VOTE NO ON SIN TAX! The ‘Sin Tax’ will benefit the billionaire owners of the Browns (First Energy Stadium), the Indians (Progressive Field), and the Cavaliers (Quicken Loans Arena) in Cleveland. Re-negotiate leases with the franchise owners so they pay their fair share and Cleveland can use the remaining revenues to improve our potholed roads, infrastructure, our schools, and libraries and not be forever obligated to supporting corporate-welfare.
THIRD ‘SIN TAX’: This is the third ‘sin tax’. Cuyahoga County voters did approve the previous two requests. The first ‘sin tax’ (approved in May 1990) provided partial financing for the Gateway Sports and Entertainment Complex which includes Progressive Field (Indians) and Quicken Loans Arena (Cavaliers) in Cleveland. The second ‘sin tax’ (an extension of the first was approved in November 1995) provided funds for the construction of the Browns Stadium now known as First Energy Stadium. From August 1990 through October 2013, the sin tax generated over $350 million for use in construction and maintenance of the three sports facilities. The current sin tax is due to expire in July 2015. 20-YEAR EXTENSION: Cuyahoga County, Ohio’s ‘Sin Tax’ is assessed at: 4.5 cents per pack of cigarettes, 1.5 cents per 12-ounce bottle of beer, 6 cents per 750-milliliter bottle of wine, 32 cents per gallon of mixed beverages, 24 cents per gallon of cider and, $3 per gallon of hard liquor, and is estimated to generate $260 million over 20-years to benefit billionaire owners of the Browns (First Energy Stadium), the Indians (Progressive Field), and the Cavaliers (Quicken Loans Arena), in Cleveland. VOTE NO ON SIN TAX!
REAL INTENT OF THE ‘SIN TAX’ BACKERS: The slogan for the backers of the ‘Sin Tax’ is: VOTE YES, KEEP CLEVELAND STRONG! In fact, their slogan should read: VOTE YES, KEEP CLEVELAND ON ITS KNEES!
