Do Better Juries Equal
Better Justice?
ABA President
Robert Grey speaks at The City Club of Cleveland.
Â
CLEVELAND, OH—Robert J. Grey, president of the
American Bar Association (ABA), will discuss his work to create better justice
through better juries at noon on Friday, April 29,
2005, at The City Club of Cleveland.
Â
A partner in the
Richmond, Va. office of Hunton & Williams,
Grey is working to improve juries through the American Jury Initiative, a
commission dedicated to educating the public on and reinvigorating the nation’s
commitment to jury service.
Â
In addition to his jury initiative,
he is working to review, unify and update ABA programs to increase diversity in
the legal profession, to advance the ABA’s international rule of law efforts
and to safeguard the profession’s independence.
Â
Grey has long been active in the
ABA leadership. From 1998 to 2000, he
served as chair of the policy-making House of Delegates—the association’s
second-highest office—which made him the first person of color to serve in a top
ABA office.
Â
Grey has received several
gubernatorial appointments in Virginia, including chair of the Virginia
Alcohol Beverage Control Board, has chaired the Greater Richmond Chamber of
Commerce, and was president of the Richmond Crusade for Voters. His honors
include the United Negro College Fund’s Flame Bearer Award, Dominion Power’s
Strong Men and Women in the Community award and the Gertrude E. Rush and Wiley
A. Branton Awards from the National Bar Association.
Â
This Friday Forum is in partnership
with the Cleveland Bar Association and The Cuyahoga County Bar Association in
celebration of Bar Association Law Day.
Â
Tickets for this City Club Friday
Forum are $15 for members and $25 for non-members. Lunch is included.
