ArtWorks is an arts-based job-training program where greater Cleveland area high school students work as apprentices to professional artists. For several weeks each summer, the ArtWorks apprentices create visual and performing art and learn workforce skills. Through ArtWorks, students learn how to work cooperatively, professionally, and responsibly while earning a wage. The on-going interactions with professionals create mentoring relationships for the apprentices, who learn essential, important skills that are transferable to any future workplace. For five days a week the apprentices engage in exciting work in theater, dance, music, photography and visual arts. In addition to creating art, the apprentices host performances and exhibitions of their work that are enjoyed by the entire community. Several times each week, community leaders from local arts and cultural organizations speak at lunchtime about various ways that arts skills are desirable and applicable to business settings. How to Apply – Students Student apprentices are selected to participate in ArtWorks based on a competitive application process. Programs will include visual arts, performing arts, and arts administration. Applications are due April 30, 2007.
