EconomyEPA Announces Start of National Lead-Safe Renovation Program to Protect Children and Pregnant WomenSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Fri, 04/23/2010 - 20:41.
Home Depot uses Ohio U.S. Senator George Victor Voinovich in a failed attempt Despite the foolish, incompetent, worst efforts of our disgraceful Republican U.S. Senator from Ohio, Genocidal-George Voinovich, who attempted to derail life-protecting lead poisoning prevention measures for America's children and pregnant women - supposedly as a favor to Home Depot, which we should all now boycott for life - I'm pleased to announce:

I grew up with pot smoking, strung out babysitters, DDT clouds, the Vietnam War and Ecology Flags...so when Jessica showed me this site, it was a blast from the past. I can remember coloring in banners for my radical babysitters...we are definitely living in strange times.

Until the late 1970, many pencils were painted with lead. If you are over 40, do you remember chewing pencils as a kid?Submitted by Norm Roulet on Thu, 04/22/2010 - 11:38.
Obama... did you chew your pencils growing up? George W? Cheney? Probably lead poisoned!Submitted by Norm Roulet on Thu, 04/22/2010 - 10:06.
I was doing some research on lead paint on toys - still a huge problem in America and world-wide, as the lead industry keeps expanding - and I thought about all the lead American children were exposed to growing up in my generation, and the generations before me, during the foolish industrial era in America. Consider the harm caused to us - older Gen-X, Baby Boomers, down through "The Greatest Generation" - the greatest price for which is still to be paid in healthcare-costs, pain and suffering for industrially-impaired older adults and senior citizens suffering for such socially-irresponsible behavior as chewing their pencils in school, as kids.

Etch A Sketch artist, in the beginning: George Vlosich III Throughout my one-year-younger-than-Etch-A-Sketch life, my perceptions of the Earth we live on have changed from a native-born sense of permanence - that my home planet will always be here and the same for all people, forever - to a learned understanding of evolution - recognizing Earth is changing, in natural ways - to a self-taught recognition of ecological devastation - realizing man is harming Earth at an unprecedented pace, beyond all past change-models - to a feared concern Earth is like an Etch-a-Sketch, designed to erase all invasive marks upon it in a sudden cleansing, leaving a fresh canvas, without significant remnants of past artists and their creations.

See map: Google Maps Today is Equal Pay Day - Women Earn About 77 Cents Per Dollar Earned By MenSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Tue, 04/20/2010 - 09:01.
04/20/2010 - 00:00 04/21/2010 - 00:00 Etc/GMT-4 Dear Norm, I'm wearing red today, because today is Equal Pay Day. This is the day designated each year to mark how far into the year the average woman must work to earn what the average man made the previous year. Women working full-time and year-round currently earn about 77 cents for every dollar earned by men, so today marks the day using 2009 figures that an average woman would finally earn what an average man made in 2009. In Ohio, this pay deficiency ($33,628 per year compared to $45,214) for women and their families in real terms means they could buy food for another two years or pay mortgage and utility payments for nine more months. Land Banking: Helping Blighted Neighborhoods Prosper - Jim Rokakis, Cuyahoga Country Treasurer, at City ClubSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Mon, 04/19/2010 - 19:37.
04/23/2010 - 12:00 04/23/2010 - 13:30 Etc/GMT-4 Land banking is an idea that originated in Ohio, and with the passing of enabling legislation for Ohio, has now become a practice that will help significantly in blighted neighborhoods. There are still many, many foreclosures and walk-aways. Neighborhoods are being decimated, especially inner-city neighborhoods. This policy is being looked at in other parts of the country, and Rokakis has recently made presentations to national groups on the idea.

See map: Google Maps What Makes A Natural Disaster Disastrous Enough?Submitted by Grace Roulet on Sun, 04/18/2010 - 03:21.
In the 2000s, there have been two HUGE international natural disasters that the United States has sent aid for and one that, as far as I know, we have not really helped much. The first of the two the United States has spent millions in aid for is the tsunami in 2004. This disaster was caused by a whopping 9.3 magnitude earthquake that sent a wall of water crashing down on countries in the Indian Ocean. This disaster caused around 184,167 deaths, 125,000 injuries, about 45,725 people to go missing, and around 1.69 million people were displaced.

Opening statement in City Club of Cleveland debate by U.S. Senate Democratic candidate Secretary of State Jennifer BrunnerSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Thu, 04/15/2010 - 14:27.
I was pleased to see posted on Secretary of State Brunner's campaign for U.S. Senator blog a video provided by the Cleveland Plain Dealer of her opening remarks at the City Club debate, this week. This was the highlight of the entire debate... watch to the end, as she differentiates herself from Fisher - nice to see the PD make this available, including allowing it to be embedded in other sites.

Primary interests: Cleveland/NEOhio regional public affairs; African American politics, commerce, culture and society; public education; national and international affairs; Cavaliers∫Browns∫Indians." I receive it by email and suggest everyone on realNEO check it out. I strongly agree with his most recent posting "Brunner the Best for Ohio Democrats" and suggest all Ohio voters read through to his posting, which I introduce below:

Question of the Day: Are you "Roundup Ready" or "a modern day hunter gatherer of healthy food"?Submitted by Norm Roulet on Wed, 04/14/2010 - 17:58.
In reflecting on the future of the food economy in America, one must understand the role of genetically engineered crops, which have blown-apart food economics and ecology in America and increasingly worldwode since their monopoly-mounted introduction 14 short years ago, driven by Monsanto covering the Earth in Roundup, AKA glyphosate.

Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.1 percent in MarchSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Wed, 04/14/2010 - 11:59.
As the world and America move forward from an age of rampant, generational, systematically-enabled global corporate, government and individual leadership incompetency, corruption, excess, conflict and greed punctuated by widespread warmongering and the rising and bursting of global energy, military, housing and financial markets, and an escalation of climate change, throughout the first decade of the 2000s, some of the great concerns of the world's legitimate economists now center on the transference of wealth and opportunity from excessively greedy individuals and enterprises - which have been riding a wave of imperfect monopoly wealth creation and productivity realignments, only benefiting large corporate executives and stockholders - to now benefit excessively impoverished common workers, who are heavily underemployed and outside the power/elite fountain of trickle-down opportunity proposed to be the benefit of unenlightened contemporary "capitalism", as we have seen over the past several decades.
Dominion East Ohio Gas "Current Plus Plan" Deadline Is End Of Business April 15thSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Tue, 04/13/2010 - 09:31.
I just received this email from Anita the Weblady, of Shaw High On Line and many other important social networks in the area, about the "Current Plus Plan." This seems to offer valuable help for area residents struggling with their past heating expenses this time of year... I thought I would pass this on to realNEO members . Note, the compliance deadline is April 15th! While reflecting on paying your Winter 2009/2010 heating bills, now, plan for how you will reduce consumption, conserve energy, and pay less going into 2011!!!!!
