Earth Day!Submitted by Grace Roulet on Sat, 04/17/2010 - 11:15.
Okay so I have a question for you. As you know Earth Day's 40th anniversary is coming up on Thursday. Well, Discovery Channel's Life is also having it's series finale tonight. I don't know if any of you have been watching it but I have watched a few episodes and I must say it really opened my eyes to the beauty of our planet's wild life. Not only did it show animals but it also showed some amazing plant life too. Seeing this show made me think about the beauty in the areas that surround us and I was thinking about what is your favorite thing in nature around you? It could be the beauty of the green grass in the park or it could be the huge rose bush in your neighbor's yard. Leave a comment with ANYTHING you think of as your favorite part of nature near you. Mine is the Austin hill country area. I love the beauty of the mountains and driving through it is absolutely amazing! One final note. Disney's Oceans is coming out on Earth Day, and, if you go and see it the first week it is out, profits from your ticket will go to save the coral reefs. SO, you should go see it, and don't forget to leave a comment about your favorite part of nature around you. Ciao!

Happy Earth Day! Great question! Besides you...
Happy Earth Day! Great question - besides you, my favorite thing in nature around me is water - it amazes me in all its forms, and for what it provides to the Earth's ecosystems. I especially love exploring under the water, although not around Cleveland... around what is left of the Barrier Reef works for me... I love all that nature!
And I love the Hill Country around Austin, and all the nature around Austin, too!!!!
Disrupt IT
Dandelions
I love dandelions. There is something just breathtaking about looking out over the green grass and seeing all the little yellow buttoms in bloom. What many people don't know is that they are good for the soil and good for your health.
Nature's beauty is astounding. There is something magical about this big ball of dirt/rocks thrown out into space, continues to spin around in constant motion and yet, with all the surface disruptions, still manages to display it's magnificence.
pine is mine
The Political Gangster
I love nature, it is very relaxing. Camping in the wild MAN!! you really know the difference when you get back to a smothering city. Fresh mountain air always helps I love it.
a little piece of urban nature
Favorite nearby nature
Hi Grace--
Great question and something we all need to ponder. I live near Riverside Cemetery, which is my favorite place to go to enjoy the change in seasons, observe bird migration and some quiet walking time. I also head over to the Metroparks Zoo, when I actually want to people watch. Hard to believe, but we qualify as nature, too.
For real solace, I still need to hear water. You are lucky in Austin to have the Colorado River and the many lakes created along the river. We have the Cuyahoga River. It is less appreciated here, but I am hopeful for the future. We have the towpath trail, which I can walk or ride my bike to from my house. We also have scenic tributaries to the Cuyahoga River and folks are beginning to understand these important waterways, too.
But, by far, the most important and life-saving nearby nature is our wonderful and underappreciated Lake Erie. Like Ed Hauser, I look to the lake for the ultimate source of balance and happiness in my life in NEO.
These are all great
These are all great responses thank you. (:
keep them coming :D
