Andrew Wyeth: Watercolors and Drawings
Master artist Andrew Wyeth (b. 1917), inspired by the world of Christina and Alvaro Olson in Cushing, Maine, created a body of work of their everyday activities, domestic interiors, and utilitarian objects. Beginning September 21 through December 16, 2007, selections from the Marunuma Art Park Collection, Japan, are featured in this exhibition of watercolors and drawings by Andrew Wyeth. This exhibition of Wyeth works have rarely been seen publicly in the United States. The show was organized by and opened at the Cincinnati (Ohio) Art Museum, and was also displayed at the Gilcrease Museum of American Art in Tulsa (Oklahoma). If you haven't been to the Butler Institute of American Art, you need to go.  The Butler is without pretension and it showcases our history as a country.  The display Native Americans chronicled in the art work of Elbridge Ayer Burbank is worth the drive.  The Butler Institute of American Art also features an excellent online database of the works.

The Institute's American Western collection includes prized works in this genre. With the Native American portraits and sensitive canvases depicting Hopi life by Elbridge Ayer Burbank, and the beautiful Oregon Trail by Albert Bierstadt as its core, this collection has become an historical record of the American experience.
