Come see what's in season at the Tremont Farmers' Market!

We have a great roster of vendors this year, offering fresh, locally grown produce, meats, eggs, cheese, honey, maple syrup, breads, baked goods, vegan baked goods and lovely art produced by some fantastic local artists.  Vendors are:  Bakery Z, Beecoloy, Country Charm Flowers, The Garden Boyz, The Gerard Family Farm, The Honey Hive, HW Farms, In the Raw Cafe, Knoble Farms, KC Coffee, Lise Anderson Jewelry, Lake Erie Creamery, Mom's Gourmet, Ms. Julie's Kitchen, Ohio Farm Direct, Plant Kingdom Bakery, Red Basket Farm, Redozo Farm, Rock Valley Run CSA Farm and Greenhouse, Rose Ridge Farm, Trish Supples, Ultimate Brownies, Wonder City Farm, t. by Sarah, Suzannie Handknits and TUFS (Tremont Urban Farm System).

The Tremont Gardeners will be hosting a Plant Swap.  Open to everyone!  Bring a plant, take a plant!

Cooking demonstration by Ricardo Sandoval of Fats Cats and Lava Lounge!

Fantastic music played by Lisa and Heather Malyuk.

Neighborhood Family Practice will provide nutritional information.

Many vendors accept WIC and Senior Farmers Market Coupons.  

The market is now set up to accept EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer).

Thanks for Market news - what is EBT?

So Farmer's Markets in Neo are very active - Shaker Square on Saturday, East Cleveland on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, and now Lincoln Park in Tremont.

Local, Local!

But I don't know about EBT.   Fill me in please.

Electronic Benefits Transfer

EBT is the modern day version of food stamps.  Instead of having pieces of paper to act as "money", the recipients are given a card, sort of like a credit card, that they can swipe to purchase food.  We're still working out some of the technical aspects, as it requires electricity and a phone line, but it's all coming together.

The local markets are great and growing.  I'm part of a small group of market managers of independent markets in the area that are coming together to collaborate.  We're still very much in the beginning stages of organizing, and because our markets are all opening up in the next few weeks, we're taking a break.  However, we definitely believe we can support each other, learn from each other, and create a stronger regional food system working together.  I'll post more as it develops.

Kamm's Corners is opening today.  I'm going to check them out, since I've never been to their market.  My goal is to step into a supermarket as little as possible.

Plant swap

  My tomato babies are on their way to the Tremont market (this TUESDAY--I just came back from Tremont now--I thought Sundays--they are now of TUESDAYS--make a note--BTW--great stuff at the street sale in Tremont TODAY) . 

 

I feel like a bad parent.  I spawned too many children--they need homes :)
